hello! I’m Avery Reed, an illustrator based in midcoast Maine. Each of my illustrations, patterns, and stories celebrates the beauty of the natural world and the laughter of children. Drawn to images of the ocean, garden, and forest, I approach these subjects as enthusiastically as my eight-year-old self once built fairy houses and scavenged the rocky coast for seaglass.

I limit myself to three distinct color palettes, which I refer to as Blues, Holiday, and Forest. Working within these color palettes allows me to play with shape, form, and repetition. And while I do arrange my work into collections, it can be mixed and matched again and again and again—the perfect body of work for wrapping paper, fabrics, and stationery.

I hold a BA in Media, Culture, and the Arts from The King’s College and an MFA in Illustration from the Fashion Institute of Technology. I work on editorial pieces, children’s books, pattern design, and special commissions, and sell my work in local shops and online. Check out my licensing portfolio here.
